Help create statewide energy efficiency standards for new buidlings in
Illinois!
Problem:
Illinois currently has no statewide energy efficiency standards for new
buildings. There are no state-wide standards that require builders to
comply with minimal requirements to reduce energy consumption of those
buildings. Adopting codes would reduce smog-causing pollutants as much as
eliminating 6000 cars from our roads.
At least thirty-six other states have adopted statewide mandatory or
voluntary energy efficiency standards for new buildings. Illinois is the
largest of the remaining states that have not yet done so.
Solution:
House Bill 1468 and Senate Bill 609 would establish a uniform statewide
energy efficiency building code for all new residential and commercial
construction in Illinois, based on the International Energy Conservation
Code. This legislation would reduce demand for fossil fuels, reduce air
pollution, and reduce energy costs for consumers (helping protect
consumers from volatile and high natural gas prices).
